We are delighted that NatWest's study in 2021 gave us this title. It doesn't mean we're perfect by any stretch, but it's something we aim to keep doing better at. And it certainly makes us a pretty great place to live in.

Climbing, mountain biking, road cycling, running, walking - we've got some of the best in the world. Seriously. But it's also about how liveable it is here. Green and blue spaces combine to form 61% greenspace (the 2nd highest percentage of any city in the world) in the 4th biggest city in England. Which is why we say this is the place where nature and culture intertwine.
Luckily we are a brewing capital of Europe too
Every March, the city spends a month celebrating the fact that the evenings are getting lighter and the weather a bit kinder - meaning the outdoors kind of opens itself back up to us. Alongside headline events that draw competitors and creators from around the world, we invite everyone to join in activities, film screenings, walks, community events, nature explorations, cultural happenings and everything else in between.
Every Summer for one weekend, the city centre transforms into a hub of adventure with Cliffhanger. With the help of our partners, Sheffield BID, there are activities on show from mountain biking to skateboarding and climbing to ziplining. Plus we also host, right on Devonshire Green, the BMCs British Bouldering Championships on a purpose built outdoor wall for everyone to watch.
A yearly celebration of getting around on two feet. The Festival coincides with the national Heritage Week programme, meaning lots of the walks have a heritage slant and involve many of our heritage sites.
Living in Sheffield, and being surrounded by this much nature, means we have a duty to look after it - for ourselves, and those who want to visit here to experience it for themselves too.
Biodiversity, the climate and nature crises, and health and wellbeing are important aspects of life to consider. We want to help everyone make Sheffield more sustainable, eco-conscious and biodiverse.
